Coalition of NGOs for Child Protection – KOMF has successfully closed the two year project “Protection of child rights in Kosovo”, funded by EU and managed by the European Union Office in Kosovo. This project has started in January 2017 and was closed in December 2018.
Among the main achievements of the project are: Implementation of the Child Protection Index 2.0. The Index is an independent mechanism for measuring each countries reform in the field of child protection in accordance to CRC. The Index reveals how Kosovo performs in more than 987 indicators, adapted from the official list of the implementation of the CRC. The Index brings evidence on the policy development, policy implementation, capacities in service provision, accountability in the child protection system and the level of cooperation among the actors working in child protection in Kosovo. KOMF has addressed the main findings and recommendations of Child Protection Index to Government, Assembly, Ministries, Municipalities, Ombudsperson and Media. KOMF has also organized three national conferences addressing the three categories identified as the most critical by the Index: Children with Disabilities, Children working on the Streets and Children Victims of Drug Abuse.
Through this project, KOMF provided sub-financing grants to NGOs in seven municipalities and supported the process of drafting Municipal Regulations and Strategy and the Action Plan on the Rights of Children in the following municipalities: Pristina, Drenas, Fushë Kosovë, Lipjan, Gjilan, Ferizaj and Peja. These documents aims to put the issues dealing with children in the center of their attention and reinstate as a priority in their municipal governance agenda. These documents provide the opportunity for every municipality to engage and address issues related to children, aimed at implementing all the rights of children. KOMF has shared these models to all municipalities of Kosovo, giving them an opportunity to replicate the process and the drafting of the Municipal Regulation and the Strategy and the Action Plan on the Rights of Children within their municipalities.
Coalition of NGOs for Child Protection in Kosovo – KOMF, has also produced an awareness raising video on child protection and respect of their rights in Kosovo. The spot aimed to influence the awareness of the general public and public institutions about our obligation to protect children. On this spot have participated 6 distinguished personalities from the advocacy platform of KOMF “Friends of Children” who have joined the common mission of awareness on child protection.
In conclusion, KOMF through this project, for two consecutive years has awarded five annual prizes for journalism in the field of protection of children’s rights in Kosovo. Except for the assessment of these stories, the purpose of this event was to further encourage journalists to work in the field of protection of children’s rights in Kosovo.
